The Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) is a points-tested stream that enables skilled professionals to permanently live and work in Australia. This visa is relevant for skilled professionals who are not sponsored by any employer, state, territory or family member.


Who is Eligible for a Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)?

The Skillselect program requires applicants to submit an EOI and be invited to apply for this visa. The Australia Skilled Migration Program requires all applicants to meet a certain minimum threshold of skills and abilities to apply for the visa.

Eligibility requirements

Under the age of 45
Lodge an EOI and get an invite to apply
Meet the threshold points score of 65
Have an occupation on the relevant skilled occupation list
Have relevant work experience post qualification
Have an appropriate skill assessment
Meet English language requirements
